To be eligible for a River account, you must meet all of the following requirements:
• You must be at least 18 years old.
• You must be a citizen or permanent legal resident of the United States with a valid Social Security number.
• Your primary residence must be in one of our supported states or jurisdictions.
• You must have a valid government photo ID such as a driver's license or a passport.
If you meet all of these conditions, you are eligible to create an account.
Step 1: Visit river.com or download the River app
Go to river.com and click "Sign up" in the upper-right corner of our site's homepage. Or, search for River in your app store to download the River app on your phone. For more information on how to download the River app on your phone, please see this Help Center article.
Step 2: Choose your account type
You can create either an individual account or a business account. Tap the correct account type and select "Get Started." For more information on creating a business account, please see this Help Center article.
Step 3: Enter your email address
Enter the email address you'd like to use to log in. By continuing, you agree to our Terms of Service and Privacy Policy.
Step 4: Confirm your email address
Check your inbox and follow the link to confirm your email address.
Step 5: Create a password
Choose a secure password that you'll use to log in with your email going forward.
Step 6: Confirm your phone number
Enter your phone number, then enter the 6-digit verification code that was sent to you by text message.
Step 7: Enter your personal information
Provide the following information so we can verify your identity:
• Your first and last name, as it appears on your government-issued ID
• Your residential address (PO boxes and commercial addresses are not accepted)
• Your date of birth
• Your Social Security number
Step 8: Verify your identity
You'll be asked to take a photo of your government-issued ID and a selfie. Make sure your device's camera is uncovered, clean, and working before you begin.
Step 9: Welcome to River!
Once your identity is verified, your account is ready and you can begin buying bitcoin!
