You can earn bitcoin when you introduce your friends and family to River.
To start earning rewards, follow these steps:
- Click "Earn Rewards" on river.com or tap "Invite friends" on the River app after tapping on your profile icon in the upper left and then tap "Referral rewards"
- Copy and share your referral link in person, via email, text message, or your favorite messaging app
- Your friend or family member can open the referral link in the message and create a new River account
- Your friend or family member needs to use your link to create an account and buy bitcoin
How much bitcoin can I earn when I refer my friends to River?
You can earn up to a total of $100 in bitcoin by referring your friends to River:
- After your friend or family member buys $100 in bitcoin, you both receive $5 in bitcoin.
- After your friend buys $1,000 in bitcoin, you both receive an additional $15 in bitcoin. Your total reward amount would be $20 in bitcoin.
- After your friend buys $10,000 in bitcoin, you both receive an additional $80 in bitcoin. Your total reward amount would be $100 in bitcoin.
Please note the following when referring a friend to River:
- The bitcoin exchange rate is set once the buy minimum is reached, not at the time of payout.
- You will not earn a reward until all purchased bitcoin has settled.
- The window of eligibility for earning rewards will start at account creation and will last for 180 days.
- Rewards apply only to bitcoin bought with cash from a linked bank account. Cash from sold bitcoin does not count toward rewards.
- Bitcoin rewards will only apply to clients referred on or after 8/7/2023. If you were referred before 8/7/2023, rewards do not apply.
- Referral rewards for bitcoin purchases will be deposited to your River account three business days after the purchase.
Who can earn bitcoin by referring friends to River?
All River clients with an open account can invite others to join through their referral link to start earning rewards. You can only refer friends who currently do not have a River account.
Please note that you cannot refer your own account or an entity in which you have a stake.
Can I apply a referral code to my River account retroactively?
Yes, you can still apply a referral code even if you have already created your River account. Please email Client Services at support@river.com with your request.
How do I share my referral link with a friend?
You can share your referral link via email, text message, or any of your favorite messaging apps. Your referral link is unique to your account and must be followed by your friends and family when signing up for River.
Please note that there is no limit to the number of friends you can refer, but the maximum reward is $100 in bitcoin per friend.
How will I earn a reward for referring my friend to River?
Applicable bitcoin rewards will be deposited to your River account 3 business days after your friend's eligible buy.
Bitcoin buys are only eligible for rewards if they occur within 180 days of the referral and if the account was created using your unique referral link.
To view your referral link and any past rewards you've earned, click "Earn Rewards" on the left side of river.com or tap "Earn bitcoin" on the homepage of the River app.
Why haven't I earned a reward yet for referring my friend to River?
There are several reasons why you or your friend did not receive a referral reward:
- Your friend must sign up using your unique referral link, creating a new River account directly after opening your link.
- Bitcoin rewards are only paid if the person you referred successfully creates an account and buys $100 in bitcoin for the $5 bitcoin reward, $1,000 in bitcoin for the additional $15 bitcoin reward, and $10,000 in bitcoin for the additional $80 bitcoin reward. You can reach these reward thresholds with one purchase or multiple buys.
- Bitcoin buys contributing to reward minimums must settle before any reward is paid.
- If the funds for a buy are not received, are returned, or cannot be processed by River, the referral bonus will not be paid.
- River does not offer rewards for duplicate or fraudulent accounts, which are subject to immediate disqualification from earning bitcoin rewards.
- If a reward minimum is not met within 180 days of your referral opening their account, neither party will receive any rewards.
What is the maximum reward I can earn if I refer multiple friends to River?
The maximum reward you can receive for each successful referral is $100 worth of bitcoin. There is no maximum to how many friends you can refer.
- For example, if you refer a friend who buys $1,000 worth of bitcoin, you'll both get $20 in bitcoin. You'll receive the $20 reward for reaching both the $100 and $1,000 purchase levels.
- If you refer several friends, each referral's rewards are tracked separately. So, if one friend buys $100 in bitcoin, you'll both get $5 in bitcoin. If another friend buys $10,000 in bitcoin, you'll both get $100 in bitcoin. Altogether, you would have earned $105 in bitcoin.

What are the terms and conditions for earning bitcoin by referring my friends?
Promoting your referral code through the use of paid advertising on 'river.com' or River Financial related keywords is prohibited. This includes, but is not limited to, bidding or running ads on search brand keywords that include "River" or similar variations and using river branded terms in your ad copy, which is not appropriate. Referrers who engage in such activities will have their referral codes deactivated. All referrals resulting from such activities are ineligible for referral payments.
Important notice: River does not guarantee payout on every account you refer due to the limitations mentioned above and risk of fraud, but we make a good faith effort to do so whenever possible. In addition, River reserves the right to change the terms for referring friends at any time due to changing market conditions, risk of fraud, or any other reason. By referring your friends, you acknowledge that receiving payouts is not guaranteed by River.
