Most often, bitcoin is stolen by tricking people, not by hacking computers. You should not transmit sensitive information over the internet. Remember that a River employee would never ask for sensitive information via social media or a messaging app. If someone reaches out to you claiming to be a part of River Financial, you can verify whether it’s an actual River employee by contacting support.

Avoid Investment Scams

Investment scams involve promises of big payouts, quick money, or guaranteed returns. Always be suspicious of any investment opportunities that promise a high return with little or no risk – if it seems too good to be true, it probably is – and is highly likely to be a scam.

Investment Scam Typologies Include:

Social engineering fraud: the act of deception used by criminals in order to manipulate individuals to disclose private information. Common methods utilize social media accounts but attempts are also made through telephone calls or in person.
Elder Fraud or Senior Scams: the act of committing a crime by targeting elderly individuals in an attempt to appropriate their money, personal property, or valuables for personal gain.
