How does ForceField work?
ForceField limits your bitcoin withdrawals off of River:
- You can set up a limit to control how much bitcoin can be withdrawn from your account each week
ForceField locks automatic withdrawals:
- Automatic withdrawals cannot be created or edited once ForceField is on
- Existing automatic withdrawals will remain active and are able to be canceled
ForceField requires deactivation:
- There is a 5-day deactivation period in which River will repeatedly notify you that a deactivation request has been initiated, ensuring you have ample time to address any potential threats
ForceField allows you to use your River account as you normally would:
- ForceField does not affect adding or withdrawing cash, buying or selling bitcoin, or receiving bitcoin
Please note that as a protective measure, you cannot expedite the ForceField deactivation period.
Why should I set up ForceField?
ForceField adds an additional layer of security to protect the bitcoin on your River account in the event of:
- Device theft or loss
- Stolen login credentials
- Scams and phishing attempts
If one of these events occurs, ForceField ensures that there are controls monitoring and protecting your account to prevent an attacker from withdrawing all your bitcoin. For added security measures, your account may have ForceField activated automatically.
Does ForceField affect automatic withdrawals?
Automatic withdrawals cannot be created or edited when ForceField is activated. However, existing automatic withdrawals will continue without interruption.
Automatic withdrawals are able to be canceled while ForceField is active.
In order to create a new automatic withdrawal, you must first deactivate ForceField. For instructions on how to deactivate ForceField, please see this Help Center article.
Does ForceField affect transfers between my accounts?
In cases where you are transferring bitcoin or cash between accounts with the same login, if the account you are transferring from has ForceField enabled, both cash and bitcoin transfers will consume that account's ForceField limit. If the originating account does not have ForceField enabled, the transfer has no ForceField implications, regardless of whether the receiving account has ForceField. For more information on cash or bitcoin transfers between accounts, please see this Help Center article.
Can I change my ForceField limit without deactivating?
Yes. You can increase or decrease your ForceField limit at any time on the River app or on river.com without needing to deactivate ForceField.
- Increasing your limit takes effect 5 days after the change. You will receive a daily notification leading up to the increase taking effect, and you can cancel the pending increase at any time during that window.
- Decreasing your limit takes effect immediately and you will receive a confirmation email.
