Article Summary
This article explains how recurring buys work at River, covering available frequencies, payment methods, when zero fees kick in, bank account debiting schedules, minimum amounts, and how time changes affect your order.
Recurring buys let you automatically purchase a set amount of bitcoin at regular intervals. For more information on how to start a recurring buy, please see this Help Center article.
For example, if you start a weekly recurring buy on a Wednesday, all recurring buys moving forward will be placed at noon on Wednesdays. Your recurring buy will continue until you cancel it or until the cash balance is insufficient.

What frequencies are available for recurring buys?
The following frequencies are available for recurring buys:
- Hourly
- Daily
- Weekly
- Bi-weekly (every two weeks)
- 1st and 15th
- Monthly
What payment methods can I use for a recurring buy?
You can pay for a recurring buy with the following methods:
- Linked bank account
- River cash balance
When you set up a recurring order using your linked bank account, funds will be withdrawn from your bank account at regular intervals to complete your purchases.
Please note that if you set up a recurring order with your River cash balance, you will need to ensure that there are sufficient funds to complete the purchase. Otherwise, your order may be canceled.
When do zero fees start for my recurring buy?
For daily and hourly recurring buys, zero fees will begin on the eighth day. For example, zero fees for an order placed on a Wednesday will begin the following Wednesday. For any other frequency, zero fees will begin on the second order.
When will my bank account be debited for my recurring buy?
If you start a daily or hourly recurring buy funded with your linked bank account, the funds will be withdrawn at the start of each week rather than every day.
Your bank account will be debited once a week between Mondays and Fridays, and the cash will be reserved in your River cash balance for your zero-fee recurring buys over the next seven days.
For example, if you start a daily recurring buy for $10, your bank account will be debited $70 at the start of each week.
If you start a recurring buy with any other frequency funded with your linked bank account, the funds will be pulled 1 to 3 business days following your transaction.
| Recurring Order Type | Frequency of Bank Account Debit |
|
Once a week |
|
1 to 3 business days following the transaction |
Can I edit a recurring buy or supercharged recurring buy?
For recurring buys, you are able to edit your payment method or recurring buy amount. For supercharged recurring buys, you are able to edit your payment method, recurring buy amount, or your supercharged multiplier.
You can also supercharge your existing recurring buy or change your supercharged recurring buy to a regular recurring buy.
If you instead wish to change the frequency or execution time of an existing recurring buy, you will need to cancel and start a new recurring buy. You can view or cancel an existing recurring buy by going to the "Activity & Orders" page or by scrolling down to the "Recurring buy" section on your River app homepage.
What are the minimum amounts for a recurring buy?
Please see the table below for the minimum amounts required to set up a recurring buy based on the funding method.
| Recurring Order Type | Bank Account | River Cash Balance |
| Hourly | $1 | $1 |
| Daily | $1 | $1 |
| Weekly | $10 | $1 |
| Bi-Weekly | $10 | $1 |

What happens to my recurring buy when a time change occurs?
Your recurring buy will always occur at the same time based on the timezone when you set it up, even when the clocks change for Daylight Saving Time.
For example, if your recurring buy is scheduled for 3:00 PM, it will continue to run at 3:00 PM before and after the time change.
