Article summary
This article explains how recurring cash deposits work at River, covering key topics relating to setup, editing and how to resolve failed deposits.
Recurring cash deposits let you automatically move cash from a linked bank account into River on a recurring cadence you choose, so your account stays funded without you needing to manually transfer cash each time.
For example, if you set up a weekly recurring cash deposit on a Wednesday, all deposits moving forward will initiate on Wednesdays at the time you choose. Your recurring cash deposit will automatically initiate based on your chosen cadence until you cancel or pause it, or if there is an issue with your linked bank account.

What payment methods can I use for a recurring cash deposit?
Recurring cash deposits can only be funded with a verified linked bank account.
When you set up a recurring cash deposit, funds will be withdrawn from your linked bank account according to the schedule you choose.
What are the minimum and maximum amounts for a recurring cash deposit?
Please see the table below for the minimum and maximum amounts for a recurring cash deposit.
| Recurring Cash Deposit | Minimum Amount | Maximum Amount |
|---|---|---|
| Scheduled (any cadence) | $10 | Linked bank weekly buy/deposit limit |
When will my bank account be debited for my recurring cash deposit?
For scheduled deposits, your bank account is debited on the cadence and time you selected.
If you've reached your linked bank weekly limit when a recurring cash deposit is due, the deposit will be skipped. River will instead reattempt the deposit automatically for 14 days. Your recurring cash deposit will be successful once your linked bank weekly limit allows for it.
Can I edit a recurring cash deposit?
Yes. You can edit your linked bank account, deposit amount, cadence, and trigger time.
Cadence, trigger time, and deposit changes take effect at the next trigger time. You can also pause a recurring cash deposit and resume it whenever you're ready, or cancel it entirely.
You can view, edit, pause, or cancel an existing recurring cash deposit by going to the "Activity & Orders" page on river.com or by scrolling down to the "Recurring deposits" section on the Banking screen in the River app.
What happens if a recurring cash deposit fails?
If an attempted recurring cash deposit fails, River automatically retries for up to 14 days. You'll receive one email when the issue starts, rather than an email for every retry attempt.
If you've already resolved the issue — for example, by adding funds to your bank account or completing re-verification — you can use the Retry button to try your cash deposit again rather than waiting for the next scheduled attempt.
If all automatic retries fail after 14 days, the future recurring cash deposits will be suspended and you'll be notified.
Does my deposited cash earn interest?
Yes. Cash from a recurring cash deposit starts earning bitcoin interest as soon as it's deposited, the same as a manual bank deposit.
