Article Summary
This article explains how to send bitcoin via River Link, including creating a link, setting an access key, and sharing or printing it.
Before you are able to send bitcoin, River will need to verify your account. For more information on how to verify your account, please see this Help Center article.
Step 1: Click "Send bitcoin"
If you are using river.com click "Send bitcoin" on the homepage. If you are using the River app, tap "Send" on the homepage.
Step 2: Select River Link
Select "Send or gift bitcoin with River Link."
Step 3: Enter amount
Enter the amount of bitcoin you would like to send. You can denominate this amount in either BTC or USD. Then, click "Continue."
If this is your first time sending, click "I understand" after reading the disclaimer regarding the risks involved with sending bitcoin. Please note that sending bitcoin is an irreversible action.
Step 4: Choose theme
Select the theme for when the recipient opens your River Link. You can choose from several festive themes, including Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Year. Then, click "continue."
Step 5: Enter details
You have the option to enter your name and a message that the recipient will see when claiming their bitcoin. You also have the ability to include an access key as an additional security measure. After reviewing your River Link details, click "Continue."
Please note that access keys will be required for any River Link over 0.05 BTC.
Step 6: Confirm details
You will be directed to a confirmation screen to review details. For any River Links larger than 0.001 BTC, you will be asked to enter a verification code before proceeding. Click "Create River Link" to generate the link.
Step 7: River Link created
You have generated your River Link and can now share with the recipient. If applicable, you will also need to share your access key.
At this point, you will also have the option to print your River Link as a PDF for physical gifting. Printed River Links include the bitcoin amount, QR code, URL, expiration date, and your message. River Links that require an access key cannot be printed. Please note that this will be the only time you will be able to print your River Link.
Since printed river links can be physically shared, they should be handled with the same care as cash. Anyone who has access to the printed River Link can claim the bitcoin, so store the paper safely until it's properly gifted.
The bitcoin associated with your River Link will be reserved on your account until the link is claimed or canceled. Additionally, the River Link will expire if it is not claimed or canceled within 30 days.
Please note that this is the only time you will be able to copy your link and access key. If you do not copy this information, you will need to cancel your River Link and generate a new one.
Please also note that the only time you will be able to access the printable version of your River Link is during its creation. Once you leave the screen for sharing details, you will no longer be able to print it at a later time. If you wish to print a River Link but have already left the creation flow, you can cancel the River Link and generate another one to print.
