Article Summary
This article explains why a bitcoin send may fail, and confirms that your bitcoin remains safe in your River account if it does.
If your bitcoin send fails, your bitcoin is safe and remains in your River account. A failed send means that the bitcoin never left River. As the transaction did not go through, you were also not charged.

Common failure reasons
- You did not complete a required step in time: Occasionally, River will need to verify some information before your requested send can be completed. When that happens, your River account will prompt you to provide the relevant information. You'll have until the end of the next business day to respond, and we'll send you a reminder. If we don't hear from you by then, the send will be automatically canceled. Your bitcoin will remain in your account, and River will email you an update so you can start a new send whenever you're ready.
- The transaction couldn't be broadcast to the network: In rare cases, a technical issue prevents the send from being broadcast. When this happens, the send is canceled and your bitcoin is returned to your balance so you can try again.
