Article Summary
This article explains River's bitcoin sale history report, how to read and find it, custom report options, and differences from tax documents.
Your bitcoin sale history is a detailed record of bitcoin sold from your River account. Each row included in this document represents a bitcoin sale completed in your account and shows the amount sold, execution price, proceeds received, and any realized gain or loss if cost basis is known.
This document can help you view gains or losses from bitcoin sales, support bookkeeping and reconciliation workflows, and provide documentation of your sale activity.
You will automatically have a PDF version of this document generated monthly. You will need to manually generate a CSV format.
Please note that your bitcoin sale history does not include any disposed bitcoin through administrative actions (for example, to resolve a failed transaction from a linked bank account).

4 |

6 |

The cost basis of the bitcoin sold will be displayed when available:
|
7 |
Gain/loss | The realized gain or loss will be calculated only for rows where the entire amount sold has a known cost basis. If any part of a row's cost basis is unknown, gain/loss for that row will also show as “Unknown.” |
How is cost basis shown when a bitcoin sale includes both known and unknown cost bases?
Each row on your bitcoin sale history report represents one sale. A single sale will never split into a “known” portion and an “unknown” portion. If any part of the bitcoin sold in that row came from a deposit without cost basis information, the entire row's cost basis and associated gain/loss will show as “Unknown,” even if part of the amount sold did have a known cost basis.
For example, consider the following account activity:
- You bought 0.00015000 BTC on River for $10.00 (known cost basis)
- You deposited 0.00010000 BTC and never added a cost basis (unknown cost basis)
- You then sold your full 0.00025000 BTC balance at $77,560.00 per bitcoin on April 27, 2026 at 5:47:30 AM ET
Because report timestamps are shown in UTC, this 5:47:30 AM ET sale appears as 9:47:30 AM. The row for this sale would appear as follows:
| Date sold | Amount sold | Bitcoin price | Sale proceeds | Cost basis | Gain/loss |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Apr 27, 2026 09:47:30 AM | ₿0.00025000 | $77,560.00 | $19.20 | Unknown | Unknown |
Had only the 0.00015000 BTC with known cost basis been sold, that row would show a cost basis of $10.00 and a gain of +$1.52 instead. Sales always draw from known-cost-basis lots before unknown-cost-basis lots, regardless of accounting method (FIFO, LIFO, or HIFO).
Your account statement calculates gains differently than this report and excludes unknown-basis lots from a sale and reports only the known lot's realized gain. They answer different questions, and it is normal for the two documents not to match.
