This article explains how to manually link your bank to River using account and routing numbers, including the micro-deposit verification process.
Step 1: Click "Profile & Settings"
If you are using river.com, click "Profile & Settings," found at the bottom of the left-hand navigation menu. If you are using your River app, tap your profile icon in the upper-left corner of the homepage.
Step 2: Click "Linked bank accounts"
If you are using river.com, scroll down and click "Linked bank accounts" under the "Funding & Limits" section. If you are using the River app, tap "Banking & Funding," then tap "Linked bank accounts."
Step 3: Link a bank account
Click "Link a bank account."
Step 4: Enter Plaid
Click "Continue" to see a list of common banking institutions.
Step 5: Find your bank
If you do not see your bank, you can try connecting your bank account with manual authentication. Instead of automatic authentication, manual authentication may be required if your banking partner is a regional bank or if you have two-factor authentication enabled for your online banking account.
Scroll down to "Connect manually" to proceed with manual authentication.
Please note that River does not support Chime Bank, Go2Bank, GreenDot Prepaid Debit Cards, Credit Karma, or Walmart Money Card. River only supports bank accounts based in the United States.
Step 6: Enter routing number
Enter the routing number for your bank account. This number is a sequence of 9 digits and can be found online or on the bottom of a physical check.
Step 7: Enter account number
Enter the account number for your bank account. This number is usually between 8 and 12 digits and can be found online, on your monthly account statements, and at the bottom of a physical check. Please also confirm the account number for your account, making sure that the numbers match what you entered above.
Step 8: Enter name
Enter the name that is on your bank account. If you have a business bank account, this will be the business name.
Step 9: Select account type
You will now have the choice between linking a checking or savings account.
Step 10: Authorize bank debits
Click "Authorize bank debits" to allow deposits and withdrawals from your bank account. In order to verify your account, Plaid will make a small deposit of $0.01 in your bank account within 1 to 2 business days.
Step 11: Enter phone number
Enter your phone number to be notified once the $0.01 is deposited in your bank account. You can also opt out of the reminder if you prefer.
Step 12: Locate deposit
You will be receiving a $0.01 deposit within 1 to 2 business days. You will also see a three-letter verification code associated with the deposit.
Step 13: Return to "Linked bank accounts"
If you are using river.com, from "Profile & Settings," click "Linked bank accounts" under the "Funding & Limits" section. If you are using your River app, tap your profile icon in the upper-left corner, tap "Banking & Funding," then tap "Linked bank accounts."
Step 14: Verify deposit
Next to the bank account you are linking, click "Verify."
Step 15: Enter code
Enter the three-letter code associated with the $0.01 deposit found in your bank account. Click "Continue" to route back to the River homepage.
Step 16: Bank account linked
Your bank account is now successfully linked to River. You can view and manage this bank account in your "Linked bank accounts" section.
